FRIDAY'S FABULOUS STAMP SET- BIRD ON A BRANCH

As you know I LOVE birds so of course this particular stamp set is in my collection.

Pull out the Taken with Teal ink pad to color the exotic bird image in the Bird on a Branch stamp set. This set has a distinctly Asian styling. This Two-Step Stampin' Set features blossoms and speckles you can add to your branch, or leave it bare. Either way, the exotic bird is ready to perch pensively on the branch.   This stamp set also has a matching designer paper, Flock Together.

For the first card I created a scene using all 5 of the images in this stamp set.  With a palette of  Taken with Teal, Kiwi Kiss, and Apricot Appeal for the flowers which I chose to scatter on the ground.  Chocolate Chip was used for the branches and also to create the greeting along the horizon.  To get the soft look of the sky and ground I sponged the color on with wide circular and sweeping motions.  The only embellishment added was the Kiwi Kiss Satin ribbon.

The second image is a night scene which was stamped on Basic Black cardstock using Encore inks of  Copper, Gold and silver.  The moon was created with a large sponge dauber in silver ink.  Mounted on Copper Cardstock  and embellished with a black pearl.  The Greeting comes from the Elegant Cheer set and was stamped in Basic Black ink.

If you would like to join an upcoming class to create these cards, join me on June 25th for the Technique Club.  We will be completing these 2 cards and 2 others using stamps to create scenes.  For more information contact me at cindy@cindyloustampingguru.com or call me at (902) 864-0825.

THURSDAY'S THOUGHTS ON SCRAPBOOKING - SPRING FLOWERS

This post is for all those who love flowers and love to garden.  My son-in-law Colin helped me to create many flower gardens last summer and these are few of the spring flowers that are now in full bloom.  I love the bright colors and the different beds.  Flowers make beautiful scrapbook pages, so if you have never tried photographing your favorite flowers, why not try it?

The page includes rub-ons and some faux stitching.  The color palette is Riding Hood Red, So Saffron, and Baja Breeze.

WEDNESDAY'S WONDERFUL PRODUCT - THE CROP-A-DILE

By far my favorite tool is the Crop-a-Dile!  I remember when I actually had to use a hammer and an eyelet setter to get the job done.  This old way certainly hindered my late night projects as the noise would have wakened my entire household!

Crop-a-Dile This wonderful tool can punch through chip board, tin, acrylic and multiple layers like cutting through butter.  You can even set the hole depth using the gauges on the left and right hand arms, which allows you to perfectly align eyelets with ease and precision.

It sets eyelets that are 3/16" and 1/8" with ease.  Besides that it has adjustable dials that allow you to accomplish many other functions quietly and with little effort!

On the top right hand side are the following settings:

A = 3/16" eyelet setter

B=1/8" round snap setter

C=1/8" eyelet setter

D= Flat setter for all oversized, miscellaneous and square shaped metal embellishments and snaps.

On the top left hand side are the following settings:

1=Large and Extra large eyelet and Snap Flare

2=Medium eyelet and snap flare.

3=Small eyelet and snap flare.

4=Cone shaped flare for snaps and eyelets where the eyelet tube is not completely hollow and for other miscellaneous cast metal eyelets and snap shapes.

TUESDAY'S TERRIFIC TIP - THE ART OF GIFT GIVING

Have you ever received a gift that was completely unexpected?  When you do it's very special isn't it?  With paper crafts there are so many ways to create a simple and economical gift that will be a special treasure to the recipient.  Whether you create a container for the gift, a gift card or the gift itself you can be sure that it will be even more special because you made it yourself.  Let your gift giving become another chance to paper craft!

Avoid last minute stress regarding special occasions by:

Keeping a special calendar of birthdays and occasions you want to remember.  Make the calendar with your paper crafts! Stampin' Up!'s has two different calendars to choose from:

Birthday Calendar

Days - To - Remember Calendar

Calendar

Make things ahead such as: Birthday cards, special bags for new neigbours or those who are sick or in the hospital.

Gift Bags

Birthday Gift Bag

Cello Bags

Cello Bag

When shopping keep an eye out for unique containers that you can transform with your paper crafts.  One of my favorites is simply decorating plain gift bags from the dollar store.

Make some home made baked goods and send them to a new mother or an elderly neighbour.

There are lots of recipes for giving just dry ingredients for home made goodies.  All they have to add is oil, milk, water or eggs.  These can be beautifully packaged in mason jars and of course decorated with your paper crafts!

Did you know you can stamp on candles and glass candle holders?  Use Stazon Inks for the glass and it will be permanent.  Don't forget Rub-Ons which work beautifully on many surfaces.

MONDAY'S MARVELOUS PROJECT - SCRAPBOOK IN THE ROUND

Front Cover.jpg

Today I created a round scrapbook using Acrylic Covers and the Simply Stampin' Kit "Love Sparkles".  The pictures are from my grand-daughter's 2nd Birthday celebrations.  The Scrapbook was held together by setting 3/16" eyelets in each of the pages and which matched the holes punched in the Acrylic Covers.  It was joined together with Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon and then decorated with Regal Rose ribbon and some pink streach ribbon from a previous Valentines promotion.

FRIDAY'S FABULOIS STAMP SET - ECHOES OF KINDNESS

I113230F The greatest reward for a kindness can be gratitude expressed. Let someone know how much their kindness meant to you with a card or gift using the Echoes of Kindness stamp set.

This is one of our free hostess sets which can only be earned by hosting a Stampin' Up! workshop in my home or yours.  This is a Level 2 set and is achieved when sales are at $395 or more before shipping and taxes.  This set is only available until the end of June, so if you would like to host a workshop for you and your friends be sure to contact me.

It's the perfect set for using water color techniques or any kind of coloring. I created 2 cards with the set and they are very inspiring for spring!

ECHOES OF KINDNESS 1

The first card has a palette of Riding Hood Red, Whisper White and Certain Celery. The image was stamped with Basic Grey Classic Ink and then colored with markers and gel pens.  There is a hint of sparkle which came also from one of the Sakura sparkling pens.  For accens I added the 2 Rhinestone brads and the Organdy/Silk ribbon.

ECHOES OF KINDNESS 2

 The second card has a color combination of Almost Amethyst, So Saffron and Lovely Lilac.  I stamped the flowers in Whisper White Craft Ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I then brayered Almost Amethyst Classic Ink all over the Glossy White cardstock it was stamped on.   After I colored the flowers, leaves and stems with markers I heat set it again.  This causes the colors to melt into the white craft ink.  This card was embellished with a So Saffron button and the greeting was colored with a Lovely Lilac marker and then mounted as shown.

The sentiment that comes with this stamp set is:

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." -Mother Theresa

THURSDAY'S THOUGHTS ON SCRAPBOOKING - 2 SWEET PAGE

Last Friday, my youngest daughter Jocelyn, graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design or NSCAD for short.  The school colors are purple and green so I decided to make her a 6 x 6 album of the days events, using the 2 Sweet Simply Scrappin' Kit.  Once I finished the smaller album I still had lots left over so I also completed a 12 x 12" page which I'm showcasing here.

NSCAD GRADUATION PAGE

This is a picture of Jocelyn and her friend Bree and the joke is that everyone at NSCAD thought they were sisters.  I think you can see why!!

It never ceases to amaze me at just how much you can do with one of our Simply Scrappin' Kits!  I still have left overs after completing a 20 page 6 x 6 album and this 12 x 12 page.  The only extras added to the page were the Star Brads.

Here's what this kit looks like brand new:

TUESDAY'S TERRIFIC TIP - BUILD-A-BRAD

Do you have any Build-A-Brads which are just collecting dust in your embellishment drawer or shelf?  Here's a few  ideas of how to make the most of them.

Embossed Build-a-Brad

The first picture is an Embossed Brad that was created by dipping the brad in Rose Red Craft Ink and then embossing it with Clear Embossing Powder.  This was repeated to make sure it was well covered.  I then added a 3/4" piece of matching designer paper for the center and added the clear adhesive bubble.

Designer Paper Brad

To create the second project the Striped Designer Paper had a 3/4" circle punched out and adhered to the brad with Snail Adhesive.  It was then covered with the clear bubble sticker to create the faux epoxy sticker look and feel.

Inked Build-a-Brad

This brad was colored with a Touch Alcohol Marker and then covered with a bubble.  You can achieve the same effect using your re-inkers and alcohol.

Sticker Build-a-Brad

This Scrapbooking flower sticker had the center punched out with the 3/4" circle punch.  This was placed on the brad and covered with a bubble.  It was then inserted back in to the center of the flower sticker.  I also added a second bubble to the other sticker to make it look like an epoxy sticker.
