TUESDAY'S TERRFIC TIP - HOW TO FIX YOUR BROKEN CHALKS
I love working with our Stampin' Pastels a.k.a. chalks. There are so many wonderful tips for their use, but today's tips are some hints of what to do with them when they are broken and crumbling.
Tip #1 Repairing your Broken Stampin' Pastels
Crumble the broken pastel even more into a small container. Mix a tiny bit of water with the pastel until it forms a thick paste. Be conservative with the water or it will ruin the chalk. Scrape the thick paste back into the original container and smooth the top until very flat. Leave the Stampin' Pastel case open to the air to allow it to dry. Depending on the humidity it can take as long as 3-4 days to dry, but it will eventually be just like new! You will notice that as the chalk dries, the outer edges dry first, and become lighter in color.
Tip # 2 New Technique with your Broken Stampin' Pastels
Here's an idea for a new technique to try with your broken pastels. Crush up your old chalks with the end of your stylus tool until you have made a nice powder. Add one teaspoon of LumiereĀ® and mix till smooth. Add Pearl Ex or Primary Elements to this mix for shimmer. For example, take red pastel chalk, add one teaspoon of Lumiere, and then add a pinch of Interference Red Pearl Ex. Experiment with different color combinations to create new looks.
Don't forget that you should seal your chalk art with a spray matte fixative. If you don't have any on hand try using a light misting of hair spray. Keep the hairspray at least 12 inches away from the paper as you don't want the card stock to become soaked as it will warp it. DO NOT USE HAIRSPRAY on your Scrapbook pages as it is not acid free and could damage your photos and other elements over time.
